    I heard that you cannot use it on all harleys. It seems that the allighning with the clutchbox must be perfect. Also the runout munst be not more than x/1000e. Or the darkhorse could be damaged. And result in a lot noice . Im not a mechanic, but could the whole operation be done in 2 hour ?

    32 and 7 is 39. You put a quart in which is 32 oz and then you opened the second quart and added 7 Oz. That's 39 oz.

    Can Harley just give us a solid bike you don’t have to pump thousands into to get it right?

    • @Prometheus1979
      @Prometheus1979 Місяць тому

      They can but they not. They want you to take it to the stealership to pay them to put the better parts on. That’s their revenue. That’s how Harley makes more money and the dealership makes money. That’s where the whole, it has to be screaming eagle parts and the dealership put them on or void your warranty crap. If they made made a good solid bike then they are losing money. That’s why the twincam was born. The evo was simple to work on and reliable. They needed to generate more revenue. It’s all about money.

      @@Prometheus1979 yea, absolutely sickened. Capitalism reaching its limits today, that’s why companies are buying houses to rent to people and clothes washing and drying machines are pretty much all junk across the board. I have a 99 twin cam i got cheap and put a bunch into to correct all issues. Instead of dumping 20k to get a newer harley id rather get a bmw gsa

    Very nice tutorial, I can see that you are more than competent. And you have the patience to do things right and by the book with tourque wrenches and specs that are quite helpful to the average Joe trying to repair or upgrade their bike. He'll im thinking of installing the dark horse comp on my old Evo lowrider " just cuz" I don't wanna be wrenching, I wanna be ridin with a smoother and better designed component. You know I can't believe that HD never thought to design a better compensator all these many years, if you look at old 70s ricers, the rear wheel sprocket drive has nibs on the sprocket hub, and cavities in the wheel hub with little rubber shock absorbers in between. This is what Dark horse has done for the compensator. Truthfully I'm surprised that I didn't think of this myself but I don't change them because I don't abuse Mt Harleys, I just cruise and enjoy the symphony of sound and soak up the scenery, to me that's what they really were made for, big bikes to cross a big country🤙👍

    I am a Darkhorse fan. I have put two of these on buddies bikes, one TC Dyna and one M8 RK. They do make a bit of noise. Nothing crazy but definitely noticeable. But you never have to go back to HD for a fix after this. Also, I agree. Working on your own bike really creates a bond with it and a more involved experience. But if you suck at it, it can also kill you. Thanks for the video.

    I rhink you may have the comp volt facts reversed. Maybe its different for earlier twin cam engines. I know dark horse specifically said to use and reuse the stock torx bolt and not to use the hexbolt. Not trying to be argumentative. You almost have me sexond guessing myself. Bob and tam of youtube recently posted a video of a man o war being installed at dark horse. The dark horse employees demonstrated the install. The pointed out the torq bolt situation.

    Dark Horse says you should use the Torx bolt, if you're trying to save $18 then you can reuse the old one. But you should consider what 175 ft lbs of torque does to the metallic structure of a bolt when torqued multiple times. Harley says if you remove it, replace it. I agree.

    Important note when reinstalling the pushrods. After installing the front cylinder, or the rear, whichever chosen to install first, and you adjust the pushrods down, wait a few minutes first the lifters to bleed down to the point that you can freely turn the pushrod. Thats the sign that it’s ok to turn the rear wheel to get the other cylinder at a flat to install the remaining two pushrods. WARNING!! If you do not let the lifters bleed down first, and you spin the rear tire, you can easily bend. Valve in the head. So, wait to install the pushrod tubes until after you can freely turn the adjusted pushrod. Also, it’s recommended to “sear the cam and crank bolts to 15 ponds of torque, each, then back off one complete turn of the bolts, then torque to down cam to 34 pounds and crank bolt to 24 pounds. This seats the pump and case before final torquing. Also I put a .002 feeler gauge between the lifter and cuff when torquing, to prevent any binding, then remove and tighten opposite cuff. Put feeler gauge in the lifter cuff side that will be on the side of the force from tightening. Only other thing would be to check the crank run out and any gap between the fly edges of the cam and crank gears. No more than .009. Of more, go back and research usually would be from the lower port o ring not seated or it’s rolled. Lot easier to take apart now instead of an issue when put back together. Great video. Sir !
